Cycle 2 Wrap Up

In NZ in April - my first proper holiday in 9 years!

This week I’m catching up with updates - first cab off the rank is cycle 2 (yes I am that far behind!)

I technically didn’t reach my objectives for this cycle. It required a lot of physical training for something that will be released in late November and I didn't have the right approach or the right amount of time.

I always knew this would be an issue because this was always going to need a full year to see to completion. That said, I still tried to squish what I could into 6 weeks because I wanted the magic Shape Up juju of momentum and pace.

I ended up taking a desperately needed holiday halfway through the cycle which helped me get some perspective and realise I needed to change my approach completely.

When I got home, I still had 2 weeks left of the cycle so I got out my logistical machete and start hacking away at my original scope by asking myself: “Ok, there’s no way I will get this done in time, but what CAN I do in two weeks?!”

Once the cycle was over, I got real about my lacklustre results and addressed what wasn’t working.

I started intermittent fasting, overhauled my training program completely and found a personal trainer who now calls me every Friday to ask me how my week of training has been.

In the immortal words of @badgalriri ‘you can have results, or excuses, but not both’.

I'm now in week 12 of the adjusted approach and I am absolutely on the right track - so I will see you all at the finish line in late November!!

Three excellent lessons from cycle 2:

1. Focus on what you CAN do with what you have.

2. Failure isn’t really failure. It’s just data pointing you in the right direction - all you need to do is interpret and act on it correctly.

3. Change a little, change a lot.
